Einschreiben 28. 7. 1941

Meine Lieben,

Euer Brief vom 4. 7. Traf am 21. 7. Ein und habe ich mt der Beantwortung bis heute gewartet, diese Woche Näheres über die Auswanderung zu erfahren, aber leidere vergebens. Ich füge auch die Photocopien der 2 AL Bescheinigungen sowie der Bestell Nr. nach St. ? bei, die Ihr vielleicht , wen nötig, nach Washington braucht. Ich wartet jedoch mit dem Schicken nach dorten, bis Euch telegraphiere, da ich doch immer noch hoffe, dass hier ein Weg gefunden wird, das Visum zu erhalten. Ich schicke sie nur mal wie so vieles andere zur Vorsorge. Bis dieser Bf = Brief ankommt werdet Ihr wohl von eurer Hochzeitsreise zurück sein.

Ihr habt recht, dass Ihr Euch mal ein paar schöne Tage macht und eure Ferien gut ausnutzt, wo Ihr doch das ganze Jahr so schwer arbeiten müsst. Es waren dies für mich auch immer schöne Zeiten, die Tage der Ausspannung und will ich hoffen, dass Ihr Euch gut amüsiert habt. Hoffentllich hast Du l. Martin, deinen Jahrzeittag für deine l. Mutter nicht vergessen. Wie mir Hans (das muss „Tante Johanna“ sein)schrieb hat sie an die ganze Verwandtschaft wegen Passage geschrieben für sich und Rudo.

Hoffentlich bekommt sie´s zusammen, auch ohne Euch.

Wenn du an sie schreibst, so teile ihr mit, dass Alfred am 24. 1. 1941 gestorben ist. Hast du jetzt Julius Kahn gesprochen? Von Louisville habe noch keine Nachricht. Hoffentlich ist alles gut verlaufen und Tuns? und Kind sind gesund.

Von hier kann Euch wenig Neues berichten, um so mehr freue mich auf euern Hochzeitsreisebericht. Grüsst alle Lieben von mir und seid Ihr Beide noch recht herzlich geküsst von Eurem Vater.

Meine Lieben, (das ist jetzt Frau Kossmann, deren eine Schwester seit 1 Jahr in Casablanca festsitzt) wir freuen uns, dass Ihr eine so schöne Reise vorhabt und wünschen Euch recht viel Vergnügen, bes. recht gutes Wetter. Wir gehen nicht in den Taunus, da man hier viel zu laufen hat und kann dann das Versäumte nicht nachholen obwohl uns allen die Tannenluft von grossem Nutzen wäre, auch wollen (wir) nicht abnehmen und Vater darf sich nicht ermüden. G(ott) s(ei) D(ank) sieht gut aus, bin damit sehr froh.

Habt Ihr Jul. Kahn(e) gesprochen, diese sind aus allem heraus, hat sich so manches verändert. Kommt Ruth in den Ferien den Opa besuchen die sind sehr schwer krank. Meine Schwester Gina, wollte abreisen, aber das Schiff wurde eingestellt, sie soll ganz ausser sich sein , von welchem Hafen weiss nicht, da in Casablanka schon über 1 Jahr ist.

Schreibe bitte an Tante H. sie freut sich doch sehr , wenn von Dir Nachricht hat. Erholt Euch recht gut und kommt gestärkt wieder zurück. Von uns ist gar nichts zu berichten, nur schön, dass abends mit den Bierherren? Beim Skat wurde Bier getrunken im Hause zusammennkommen. Left margin 4 Einlagen soeben hörte von der Nord Line, dass alles über Washington lief. Not litterally aber sinngemäß Hörte, dass wenn die Kinder von Einwanderern amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft hätten, dann ginge alles schneller.

Julius und Frieda Kahn gelang 1941 die Flucht nach USA, dem Cousin von Julius Leopold und seiner Frau gelang dies nicht. Der genannte Rudo müsste ein Verwandter (Sohn) von Johanna Koppel sein.

My Darlings,

Your letter of July 4 has arrived July 21, and I have been waiting with my reply until today, hoping to have some news about our emigration, but in vain. I enclose copies of the 2 AL proofs and the appointment to Stuttgart, you might find useful when communicating with Washington. But do not send them anything yet until you receive a telegram from me, for I still hope to find a way to receive a visa from here. I am just sending these just in case. By the time you read this letter you will have returned from your honeymoon trip.

You are right to enjoy a few beautiful days by yourselves and use your holidays when you work so hard all year long. I also always enjoyed very much to have a few relaxing days and hope you too have a great time. Hopefully, dear Martin, you have not forgotten your Jahrzeit for your dear mother. As Hans [Aunt Hans] wrote to me she asked the entire family for the passage for herself and Rudo. Hopefully she gets it, even without your help.

If you write to her, tell her that Alfred has passed away on 24.1.1941. Have you spoken with Julius Kahn? I have not heard anything from Louisville yet. Hopefully they are all well and ??? and child are healthy. I have not got much else to report, the more I look forward to reading your honeymoon report.

My Darlings, [this is Mrs Kossmann, whose sister has been stuck in Casablanca for a year] we are happy that you are planning such a beautiful trip and wish you a great time, especially when the weather is so beautiful. We are not going to the Taunus as we have to walk around here a lot and one cannot make up for what we miss; even though the fresh pine tree fragrance would do us good; we do not want to lose weight and Father must not exhaust himself. Thank God he looks great which makes me happy.

Have you spoken to Jul. Kahn, things have changed significantly. Ruth comes to visit the Grandpa; they are very ill. My sister Gina wanted to leave but the ship was cancelled. She is very upset, no idea from which port she could leave, for she has been stuck in Casablanca for a whole year.

Please write to Aunt H. she loves to get news from you. Have a great holiday and come back stronger. I have nothing new to report; evenings we sit with the beer party playing Skat in the house. Leopold Kahn is our strategist…. [the scan is incomplete]

Left margin: 4 enclosures. I’ve just heard from Nord Line that everything is being processed in Washington. Not literally, but in the bureaucratic sense. I heard if the children of emigrants were US citizens, it would be much easier.

Julius and Frieda Kahn managed to escape into the USA in 1941, unlike the cousin of Julius Leopold and his wife. Rudo must be a relative (son) of Johanna Koppel.
