Lieber Martin

Gelangte in den Besitz deines Briefes Nr.12 und wie immer sehr damit gefreut. Letzte Woche ist Else Meyer hier gewesen und hat sich bei verschiedenen Leuten verabschiedet, bei uns war sie nicht. Wie mir Jule Strauss sagte, käme sie nicht nach Chicago; sie würde in N.Y. bleiben, da ihr Verehrer in der Nähe von N.Y. wohnt. Aber Herr Löwy sagte zu mir, als ob sie doch nach Chicago käme, da der Betreffende, der ihr Bürgschaft stellte doch in Ch. wohne. Sollte dies der Fall sein, so nehme ich an, daß sie dir nichts mitnehmen wollte und wirst du deine Consequenzen schon daraus ziehen.

Betr. deiner Wohnung kann dir von hier aus nichts sagen und thust du gut, dich mit Max und Käthchen zu besprechen; denn für die Dauer wird es doch zu viel verlangt sein. Vielleicht kannst du auch billiger wohnen. Wie aus deinem Schreiben entnehme, scheinst du dich so von einem zum andern herum zu essen. (??? loh) Aber auch da habe nichts dagegen; die Hauptsache ist, wenn du herum kommst und hältst was übrig.

Max Oppenheimer soll 25 Dollar bekommen. Tante Hilda ist sehr erstaunt, dass du an Berthel noch nicht geantwortet hast, da sie dir doch schon vor Wochen geschrieben. Der junge Mann bei ???, der deine Skis gekauft hat, ist auch wegen § 175 verhaftet worden; es seien ca. 200 in D. dieserhalb seid 4 Wochen verhaftet worden.

Betreff deiner vielen Wüsche will sehen, ob Karl Kahn, der am 4. 11. mit der Washington ab Hamburg reist, was mitgeben kann. Kahn´s haben bis jetzt nicht verkauft und wohnen noch hier.

Für heute sei vielmals geküsst von deinem Vater.

Hede ist heute mittag zum Sportfest nach Darmstadt.

Dear Martin,

I came into possession of your letter number 12, and as always, was very happy to receive it. Last week Else Meyer was here and said goodbye to various people. She didn't come to us. As Jule Strauss tells me, she's not going to Chicago. She'll stay in New York, as her beau lives near there. But Herr Löwy was under the impression that she'd go to Chicago after all, as the person offering the affidavit does live in Chicago. If this should be the case, I take it that she doesn't want to take anything along for you, and you can draw your own conclusions from it.

On the subject of your apartment I can't say much from here, and you'd do well to talk with Max and Käthchen about it, since it's too much for any length of time. Perhaps you can also find cheaper. As I gather from your writing, it seems you're bouncing around from one to another for meals. I have nothing against that either; the main thing is that you get around and save a bit.

Max Oppenheimer should get 25 dollars. Aunt Hilda is very surprised that you've still not answered Berthel yet, as she wrote to you weeks ago. The young man in ??? who bought your skis has also been arrested under §175, supposedly around 200 have been arrested in D. for this for the past 4 weeks.

Regarding your many requests, I'll see if I can give anything to Karl Kahn, who leaves on November 4th on the Washington from Hamburg. Kahns still haven't sold yet and still live here.
