Lieber Martin !

Bei Erhalt des Briefes hast Du sicher schon von l. Sally alles Neue gehört .Gesund sind wir noch immer, das ist doch die Hauptsache.

Nun will ich Dir Verschiedenes von Deinem Fach schreiben. Ich sah, allerdings nur abgebildet, das neue Leitz Objekt(iv) (43mm 1:1,5) es kostet 600 Mk brutto. Soll (das) dein Vater mir zum Geburtstag schenken? Ich mache doch auch gern schöne Bilder. Dann hat mir der Herr einen Icon -Zeiss –Film- Apparat gezeigt – älteres Modell, aber genau so schön wie die heute auch; kostet 225.- mich jedoch 80.- da er ihm darumsteht, will er ihn abgeben. Hast Du schon was von Robott gehört – er ist billiger als die Leica – hat Zeiss Objectiv. Hast Du schon Sallys Feldstecher gesehen? Zu Eisele gehe ich nicht, sondern habe einen anderen genausso netten Händler gefunden. Der denkt, daß ein Vergr(ößerungsapparat) nicht teurer als 100 .- kommt da Du ihm Dein Objekiv einsetzen kannst. Es ist der normale Vergr.-App. Deine Jodstifte sind auch jetzt in unserem Gebrauch nur sie? wir auch so dafür wie Du. Bestehen übrigens dort Möglichkeiten Hersteller ist gefunden ..?.. Saly kann dir ja berichten . Schreibe doch für uns noch ausführlich an uns; unsere Sprachkenntnisse machen gute Fortschritte; ich lerne täglich 1 Stunde. Was den Haushalt anbetrifft, so habe ich keine Angst -- pommes frites kriegt´st Du bestimmt gleich von mir gemacht, auch Gurkensuppe[?]! Deine Ely

By the time you get this letter you will have surely heard all the news from dear Sally. We remain in good health, which is what matters most.

Now I will write you about your favorite subject matter. I saw, really just on a picture, the new Leitz lens (43mm 1:1,5); it costs 600 marks. Do you suggest your father should give that to me as a birthday present? I, too, love to take nice pictures. Then the man showed me an Icon-Zeiss-Film-camera – an older model but just as great as the new ones; it costs 225, but I could have it for 80 as he wants to unload it. Have you ever heard about Robott – cheaper than the Leica – and has a Zeiss objective. Have you already seen Sally's binoculars? I won’t go to Eisele, I have found another seller, just as nice. He thinks a magnifying apparatus should not cost more than 100, since you can put your own lens into it. It is a normal magnifier. We are now also using your iodine sticks […] and we think these are the right ones just like you do. By the way, are there any chances to find a source there? Sally can let you know. Write to us about all the details; our language skills are getting better; I study every day for an hour.
